Plant Pen

For children without hands, or those with disabled hands, writing is a difficult task. Plant Pen has been designed especially for these children. There are two versions: one for the mouth and one for the foot.

Red Dot
The mouth pen is comfortable to hold and easy to write with. A soft silicone bite plate features curved ridges that allow a firm grasp and increased occlusive density (the close fit of the teeth on the upper and lower jaws), stabilising the movement of writing. The hardness of the pen barrel allows the appropriate force for writing. The mouth is positioned at an optimal angle of 170 degrees against the barrel. Desktop and portable pen stands have been designed. The mouth plate and the portable pen stand can be disconnected for cleaning to avoid the breeding of bacteria from saliva.

The curves of the foot pen achieve a close fit with the user’s foot. Bendable silicone assures comfort. A heel base allows for smoother foot movement and greater stability. Ergonomic tests (studying the ability of users to easily fetch, hold, operate, and place the pens) have verified the final configurations of the two pens in terms of shape, size, and angle.
