The Sinitic languages in China are one of the most complicated dialect systems in the world. With the popularity of the Internet, voice search is widely used in China but it can only identify Mandarin. This system is designed as a communication platform for mobile phones to identify dialects and translate them into Mandarin. Not only does it make communication in daily life more convenient, it also preserves a distinctive culture of China.
The system has a personalisation setting and three main functions. Firstly, it can be used for navigational purposes in mobile maps by allowing users to use the voice search function in their own Sinitic language; secondly, to facilitate communication, the user can speak into the system, which will verbally translate and playback the speeches in Mandarin; and lastly it serves as a studying tool to learn more about the Sinitic languages.
