Cisco Augmented Collaboration System blends the physical and virtual worlds to allow people to collaborate visually with interactive digital content. The idea is to increase shared understanding of issues and solve real problems.

The design improves the collaborative videoconference experience by providing a system that can be divided into a collaboration section and a video section. The two sections are arranged in an angular configuration to provide a somewhat wrap-around or ‘L-shaped’ configuration. This angular relationship supports a shoulder-to-shoulder collaboration experience, which simulates the real world where, as a user writes on a whiteboard, the user has other collaborators next to him or her.
Several features worth highlighting include:
Direct manipulation – the workspace is touch-friendly with a range of intuitive touch gestures. Users can work directly from the screen.
Interaction feedback – remote user’s drawing will be clearly displayed with a virtual hand. If the remote user is selecting a user interface such as ‘Ring Menu’, the menu from the remote site will be blurred in local display.
Physical objects – the system blends in physical objects so that users can literally ‘pick up’ any marker or eraser, just like writing or erasing on a real world whiteboard.
Cloud architecture and mobility – the design has an elastic cloud-based architecture which allows multiple clients to connect to the same session. Even if users are not physically in the collaboration meeting room, they can still join the session using the iPad application, ‘CoCreate’.
