A simple addition to the wine bottle mould creates a bow tie-shaped extrusion that prevents bottles from rolling during storage.
Prof. Zhang Jian
For proper storage, wine bottles need to be placed horizontally or aslant to keep the contact between cork and wine. This prevents air from entering the bottle through the cork. Thus, the wine is prevented from oxidation and can be stored for a lengthy period without going bad.
The bottle design solves the problem of horizontal storage without rolling. The glass bottle is cast with a cross-shaped extrusion on its upper half. This ‘bow tie’ is not merely decorative; it also provides a simple built-in bottle support. The bottle can be simply laid flat with no other means of support.
