How many design concepts can I enter?
You can enter as many design concepts as you wish.

How can I participate?
Participation is a 2 stage process. First, register online with your contact details.
There are 7 entrant categories to register for.

  1. Individual
    works submitted are designed by 1 person

  2. Group of 2 Individual designers
    works submitted are designed by a group of 2 persons, all works submitted are designed by the same people in the group

  3. Group of 3 Individual designers
    works submitted are designed by a group 3 persons, all works submitted are designed by the same people in the group

  4. Group of 4 Individual designers
    works submitted are designed by a group of 4 persons, all works submitted are designed by the same people in the group

  5. Group of 5 Individual designers
    works submitted designed by a group of 5 persons, all works submitted are designed by the same people in the group

  6. Company
    works submitted are designed by a design team from a design studio or company

  7. Institution or University
    works submitted are designed for a research or school project

After registration, a submission account will be created. In the submission account, you can submit your design concepts for the award.

What works can I submit for the award?
You can submit design concepts that are not available on the market before 1 December 2010. The works should be design concepts of products or systems of products. The works should fall under any one of 20 design concept categories of the award.

Packaging concepts should be submitted to the red dot award: communication design.

Is it possible to submit a series of works?
You can group product series (for example crockery, cutlery, etc.) and submit it as one entry. By contrast, in the case of product ranges (for example a washing machine and a dishwasher from the same design line) the products have to be registered separately.

Entering your work

What criteria does my entry have to fulfil?
All work must be submitted online through your submission account.

Presentation requirements:

  • Each work should include:
    A description of the work, include how the product works,
    and use-scenario
  • Drawings or renderings of the product
    Work can be 3 to 5 pages long
    Work must be in English only
  • Focus on novelty of the design concept
  • Not more than 5 pages long


Entry formats:

File format: PDF, JPG, or TIF only
File size: 2Mb per file, total of 5 files may be uploaded
Resolution: min. 72 dpi, max. 300 dpi
Print Size: A3, Height 42cm by width 29.7cm
Please include the page number and total number of pages on each board.

Do NOT include product company logos or designers’ names in the submission.

Optional inclusion
Films: MOV, MPEG4, WMV, FLV

Prototypes/Models
Prototype or models are not necessary for the award. However, if you have a model or prototype, and shipping costs are not prohibitive, a model or prototype is useful for visualisation.

Please send video files and/or prototypes and models by post to 28 Maxwell Road, #02-15, Singapore 069120. Please label the CD or DVD or prototype or model with your submission ID.

I registered before 16 April 2010, what is the deadline to submit my work?
Your deadline to submit your work is 14 May 2010, 2359 hours, Singapore time.

All entries purchased from 16 April to 1 July, must submit their work by 9 July 2010, 2359 hours, Singapore time. Entries purchased from 2 July to 8 July, must submit their work by
12 July 2010, 2359 hours, Singapore time.

What is the "date of creation" on the online submission form?
The date of creation is the date you created the design concept. In the event of an itellectual property dispute, the date of creation is one aspect to use to prove originality of your idea.

Costs

What are the fees for participation?
The registration fee depends on when you register. You can find a list of the registration fees here.

If your design concept wins a prize, you have the privilege of being able to use the red dot label, having your prizewinning product represented in the yearbook and put on show in the red dot design museum as well as in the online exhibition. You can find a list of the related costs here.

Winning a prize

How soon can I use the logo?
The logo can be used immediately after receiving notification of the prize, provided that you have completed the booking for the marketing service package. The logo can be used for the duration of the life cycle of the prizewinning product.

When can I announce my win?
We would like to ensure that the results are communicated at around the same time. For this reason, we ask you not to announce your prize before 1 October 2010.
