This kerbside call-and-response system for taxi passengers and drivers allows for a timely exchange of information and the optimisation of an urban travel option.
This roadside product has been designed to assist members of the public with securing a taxi, and to assist taxi drivers with finding passengers. The system provides feedback from a taxi to the prospective passenger, and sends exact location details to taxi drivers.
The device is set into the kerb and integrates with its environment. It has a tough upper shell of transparent fibreglass-reinforced plastic, and a lower shell of polypropylene. Tactile markings on the top surface indicate where a passenger should stand. After the passenger has stood on the device for ten seconds, the built-in sensors send the trip-request information to the nearest taxi.
Coloured LEDs within the shell indicate whether a taxi is on its way. The default light colour is blue. This changes to green once a taxi confirms the job. It reverts to blue when the passenger steps off the device. During the day, the device automatically goes into energy-saving mode between trip requests. |
