Purchasing limp lettuce and sour milk would be a thing of the past with Freshcode – a supermarket barcode that disappears as foods go stale.
Freshcode is a barcode that indicates the expiry date of any kind of food. The shelf life is set during packaging. The height of the barcode displays the freshness of the food, and the bars get shorter as the expiry date approaches. The percentage of the shelf life remaining can be read on the scale bar at the side of the barcode. When the bars reach the baseline, the checkout scanner will be unable to scan the barcode, thus preventing the customer from purchasing expired goods and reminding the supermarket to obtain fresh stock. |
