Being is a lamp that reacts to human stimulation. The lamp senses what is going on around it and responds accordingly.
Although technology advances rapidly, interaction between people and daily objects is still most commonly carried out in a unidirectional manner; the objects usually play a passive role in the process of interaction. Being is a lamp that offers a simple interactive technique. This imbues it with vitality.
The directional movement of the hand above the lamp determines the brightness of the light emitted and the shape of the lamp. The folded skin of the lamp expands and contracts to make the lamp larger or smaller. When the user places their hand near the top of the lamp, it will react by becoming brighter and more bulbous.
It will retain these settings when the hand is taken away. If the user hovers their hand over the lamp once more and gradually raises it, the lamp will react by becoming dimmer and narrower, until it finally turns off. |
