Wax Vases are translucent containers made with wax. An experimental production process results in unique formations of wax that appear to be multi-layered.
The malleability of wax is keenly explored during the creation of Wax Vases. Different material states are showcased, and an intriguing dialogue can thus be initiated with users of the containers.
The production process involves the use of ice as an internal mould. A block of ice is dipped into hot liquid wax, which causes the wax to solidify on the surface of the ice. Simultaneously, the ice melts as it comes into contact with the hot wax. A delicate and random pattern is thus created as the wax hardens.
A degree of control can be exerted over the formation of the pattern via the speed at which the ice is placed into the liquid wax. To complete the wax formation, the Wax Vases are plunged into cold water. |
