One Box, One Chair

Capitalising on the strength of corrugated cardboard, One Box, One Chair is a box that transforms into a chair (and back again) with a few simple folds.

Addressing the disposability of the cardboard box, One Box, One Chair prolongs its useful life by transforming it into a chair. The original structure of the box is maintained, and the chair can easily be converted back into a box when necessary. For instance, a student could use a box as a chair when she is living in a dorm, and use it as a container when she is moving out.

The chair is created by pushing one corner of the box into an arch shape. The main existing fold lines of the box are maintained, even though its shape is reconfigured. The transformation method avoids the need for cutting and extensive gluing, and is quickly done. Starting with a typical box that has pre-existing fold lines and its bottom flanks folded inward, all the user needs to do is push the box in. Despite its simple design, the chair is very durable.
