Using the “cradle-to-cradle” approach, the Eco-effective Table uses cutting-edge material technology to provide sustainability in contemporary furniture design.
The Eco-effective Table has been designed with a sustainable domestic lifestyle in mind. The “cradle-to-cradle” concept (which gained notoriety in Michael Braungart and William McDonough’s 2002 book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things) suggests that the production and disposal of products should follow natural systems in order to avoid unnecessary waste. The “cradle-to-cradle” concept was applied to the design of the Eco-effective Table.
As such, its injection-moulded legs and extruded tabletop can become “biological nutrients” at the end of the table’s life. They are made with ARBOFORM – a plant-based biodegradable thermoplastic. The tabletop comes with a beech veneer that can also flow back into the "biological cycle." The legs are assembled to the top via metal threaded inserts and screws that can turn into profit as "technical nutrients."
The design of the table was inspired by Jean Prouvé’s work from the 1950s. Its simple geometry targets both rigidity and material savings. |
