Electric Lawnmower

red dot award
red dot award: design concept 2009

Save & Safe

The petite and easy-to-use solar-powered Electric Lawnmower is ideal for keeping small patches of grass perfectly cut.

The modern home is not confined by its four solid walls. Rather, garden settings can function as sitting rooms for eating, working, and socialising. Many people pay the same attention to keeping such areas clean as they do to rooms inside the house. The idea of the Electric Lawnmower was to transform the traditional lawnmower into a “garden cleaner” like the interior vacuum cleaner that is used on the house floor. It has been designed to fit into small outdoor spaces so the appropriate level of attention-to-detail can be paid.

The design team based the concept on core values including being “green” and being user-friendly. Electric Lawnmower is lightweight, foldable, inexpensive to operate, easy to maintain, and quiet to use. The bag can be changed with just one manoeuvre, and the lawnmower is turned on with the push of a button. Photovoltaic technology gives this machine a future-oriented alternative to petrol lawnmowers. Solar cells convert the sun’s energy into electricity. A removable polymer-ion battery system ensures full functionality.

The concept was designed in collaboration with GGP Group.
