Kinetiscape provides a unique playscape experience that connects imaginative play, exploration and cognitive development. It challenges children to make discoveries not only within their environment, but also within themselves.
Kinetiscape aims to be different to other playground equipment by bringing back the spinning action of merry-go-rounds. Encouraging exploration and experimentation, it allows children to interact and play together, or by themselves if they prefer. Seeming to emerge out of the playground landscape, Kinetiscape provides the feel of an organic, growing environment as it moves with active children.
Speed is controlled by the governing mechanism underneath, which uses simple physics (centripetal force), springs and weights. The faster the child turns Kinetiscape, the more difficult it becomes to spin as the weights shift outward. Spinning at a slow, steady pace is the key. The climbing areas encourage children to hug the elements rather than using their hands to hold on, thus utilizing their larger muscle groups. This new merry-go-round is flush to the ground giving children the option to ride it like a skateboard (with one leg on and the other used to push), without fear of getting their leg caught underneath or missing a step. Inside is a soft and inviting nook that provides children with a place to explore and take cover in.
Kinetiscape encourages children to build a sense of mastery and independence. By combining the elements of hide, slide, ride and turn, this becomes a playscape that responds to them as they interact with it.
