The Streamliner concept combines the exterior and interior design of a traditional body-wing aircraft with the latest flying wing technology. It describes a vision for logistically efficient, convenient and flexible passenger aviation in 2020.

“The number of passengers is expected to triple by 2020 while the price for plane tickets is expected to halve.” German Aerospace Center

The Streamliner concept shows a vision for future passenger aviation, providing approaches for resolving current problems and combining the logistic requirements of airlines with passengers’ needs regarding convenience, individuality and flexibility. An amalgamation of the present body-wing construction and a flying wing design, which generates advantageous synergy effects, has been designed in cooperation with Prof Helmut Staubach, Prof Dr Jörg Reiff- Stephan and graduate engineer Berkant Göksel. The exterior is based on one of Mr. Göksels papers. The amalgamation of the two shapes takes advantage of the energy- saving aerodynamic properties of a flying wing aircraft.

The passenger seats are equipped with additional window space. Contrary to all present flying wing designs, passengers are not exposed to acceleration forces. A new reservation and logistics concept has been designed to make all passengers feel as though they are flying first class. The main idea is to create a cabin that interprets space as a factor of convenience, allows flexibility and makes voyaging an individual experience, without the conventional division into business and economy class. When booking a flight, passengers have the chance to configure their own convenient features.

The new seat design in the interior of the aircraft is a key feature of the new design. Families can voyage in a cabin-like seating arrangement, couples are seated face-to-face so they can talk to each other, and people who want to relax can fly in a reclining seat.

The trolley concept is one of the other innovative highlights. Food is transported to different catering spots under the gangway ceiling in autonomous trolleys and served by the cabin crew from there. The trolleys do not have to be pushed anymore, so damage of the seats is avoided and congestion in the gangway is a thing of the past.
