Deodion is a portable device that uses wood
vinegar to effectively sterilise and deodorise
shoes while avoiding direct physical contact
with the footwear.
Foot and shoe odour is the cause of much embarrassment for many. It creates
unpleasantness not only for the shoe wearer
and those around them, but also for the indoor
environment. As a result, many will wash their
footwear to get rid of odours. However, this
can damage the shoes’ shape and materials.
Deodion is a portable device designed to
address this problem. Deodion’s design was
inspired by the form of a scorpion in a state of
attack, which translates as a metaphor for the
steriliser’s effective attack on foot odour and
bacteria!, Deodion clasps onto the inner sides
of the shoes with its arms and uses its spray
air-circulation feature to eliminate nasties. This
method not only retains the shoes’ shape, but
the process ensures internal air-circulation and
thorough sterilisation and deodorisation of the
footwear.
Deodion features an on/off button on the
handle. To operate the steriliser, the user
simply has to push forward the switch
enabling the arms to grip the pair of shoes.
Once Deodion is attached, the user activates
the power button once. This allows the wood vinegar composite to be sprayed consecutively into the shoes for sterilisation and deodorisation. Its arms can be rotated using a rack and pinion with a proximity sensor feature. Powered by a rechargeable battery, Deodion includes a display light, which indicates a fully-charged status. The refillable wood vinegar bottle can be replaced by simply
inserting a new refill into the unit. |
