Aiming to draw children away from their computer games and out into nature, Quriosity
provides a fun means for children to study
insects without harming them.
Quriosity is a new type of educational device for studying insects. This project was conceived to inspire curiosity in children about nature and to encourage them to go outside and experience it. With Quriosity, children can
leave insects as they are in the nature and just take information with them, rather than the insects’ lives. After an insect is position within
the ring, the child presses the “shoot” button.
Quriosity takes photographs of the insect (or
plant) from three view points. The photos can
be transferred to a computer via a memory card, and then, using Quriosity Map, it is easy to produce a 3D image from various 2D
photographs. Children can move and rotate
the 3D image and zoom in/out to observe the insect. They can also enter information about the insect in the Quriosity Map. With this information, children can create their own
ecology map with their field trip diary.
