When you submit your design concept at this period,
you have the advantage of pre-judging.

Pre-judging gives you 3 benefits:

a. You can submit your design concept in English, Chinese,
German, and Korean. This helps you save time
and cost by avoiding the need to have your work translated
into English until the jury indicates that the design concept
has a potential to win a red dot.

b. You can save with very low submission fee if your
design concept is not ready to win a red dot.

c. You can submit more design concepts to the award
and only pay for the judging presentation fee for those
design concepts that have the potential to win a red dot.

standard submission period

From 1 Mar 2012 to 27 Apr 2012, you can submit
your design concept to the award with the advantage
of pre-judging.

pre-judging At pre-judging, the jury reviews your design concept via
a protected proprietary online portal. Jury who are native
speakers of the languages, English, Chinese, German,
and Korean are organised into language groups
to evaluate your design concept based on
your choice of language.

The aim is to offer designers who are not English proficient
a more equitable platform to compete for the award.

prepare for final judging After pre-judging, you will receive an email to inform
you if your design concept will proceed on to the final judging.

If your design concept is not already presented in English and
is selected for final judging, you have to upload a new file with
English translation for final judging. This is because English is
the common language for the jury of different nations to debate and
discuss your design concept at the final judging.

You can translate the information to English yourself and upload the
English presentation online OR you can purchase an English
translation service to do it for you.

There is also a judging presentation fee you will have to pay.

late submission period From 28 Apr 2011 to 27 Jun 2012, you can submit your
design concept only in English.

Design concepts submitted during the late period will
proceed directly to final judging. Therefore, you will
need to pay both the submission fee and the
judging presentation fee.

final judging During final judging, jury from different nations
arrive at the red dot design museum in Singapore
for 3 days to study and debate the design concepts
to determine which design concepts will win a red dot.

results You will receive a congratulatory letter
of your design concept concept wins a
red dot. The details of your winning
design concept will not be revealed to
the public and press until the awarding
ceremony in October, to give you enough
time to file for protection.

awarding ceremony In late October, the awarding
ceremony will be held at the
red dot design museum in
Singapore.

On that day, the exhibition of
winning design concepts will open
for a year online and in the museum.
The award yearbook will also be
launched.

The red dot team will also liaise
with more than 500 press and media
contacts worldwide to feature
the award winning designs.
