Lu Xiaobo

Dean of the information art & design department in the Academy of Art and Design, Tsinghua University, China

Lu Xiaobo graduated from the industrial design department of Central academy of art and design, China in 1982. In 1987, he was an advanced visiting scholar at the Art School of Kassel Univeristy, Germany and in 1990 made guest researcher. Afterwhich, he joined Tsinghua University, China. In 1999, Professor Lu became the dean of the Industrial Design Department at Tsinghua University’s Academy of Art and Design. During his 3-year term as Dean, he was a guest researcher at the Microsoft Company, tutored doctoral students at Tsinghua Univeristy, which he continues on today, as well as maintained other academic posts. In 2001 to 2003, he was made deputy dean of the graduate school of Tsinghua University, from 2002 to 2005, he was made vice dean of the art and science research center of Tsinghua University. Today, he holds several academic posts at Tsinghua University, including vice chairman of Academy Committee in the Academy of Art and Design, dean of the information art & design department in the Academy of Art and Design, as well as resident deputy dean of the art & science research center.

Professor Lu’s research projects include “Information Design”, “Instructing Software for CAID”, “Concept Design for Futuristic Educating System with Information Technology”, “Concept Design for Futuristic Mobile Business Platform, December” sponsored by various department of Tsinghua University. He also has other research projects sponsored by various organisations, they include “Basic research for network based Three-Dimensional picture” sponsored by Basic Research Foundation, and “Concept Design for Futuristic High-speed Train” sponsored by South China Train Group.

Professor Lu also maintains many interests outside Tsinghua University. He is the resident director of Industrial Design Association (China), the Deputy director of Computer art faculty of Engineering Iconographic Association (China), Deputy director of industrial design association under Ministry of Education, China, Director of “Decoration” and “Architecture and Design”, and is a Committeeman of Science Association, China. He was the Doyen judge of CCTV Creative Grand Ceremony, China, 2006 and was a Judge of Excellent Appearance Patent Competition, held by State Intellectual Property Office, China, 2006
